EL CUYO, YUCATAN
El Cuyo offers one of the longest seasons for kitesurfing around Cancun Mexico. The water is shallow with lots of open space and uncrowded beaches perfect for downwinders and for learning. The water is generally flat, but the strong north winds can bring choppy/wavy conditions. In recent years it’s become a kiteboarding ‘mecca’ for those in the know and several outfits offer classes. The town sees a few local tourists looking for a short beach vacation, but not many foreigners visit here.
Many of our students have left El Cuyo as independent kiters, some even riding upwind in both directions with a huge smiles on their face and a ton of stoke to take home.
We mostly go to El Cuyo when the wind is very light in Playa del Carmen and Cancun in June, July. The trip duration may vary 1-3 days, depending on the wind forecast. The journey to El Cuyo, Yucatan begins from Playa del Carmen leaving early in the morning.
We will pick you from Playa del Carmen downtown and will be arriving at about 11:30 am to a beautiful El Cuyo beach, miles of water with blue tones and shallow Caribbean warm waters with the best conditions for learning or raise your skills!

This slice of natural paradise is just 20 kilometres from Holbox Island and 2 hours from Playa del Carmen or 2,5 hours from Cancun. It is located on the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula in the National Park Ria Lagartos. The drive is interesting passing some small Mayan villages and fields with palms and ceiba trees dotting them.
